Live from Kings Mountain at Crest

Wet night here just like everywhere else as both teams are in the locker room with about 40 minutes left before kickoff. With three radio crews in the pressbox, things are pretty tight up here tonight. As always, I'll try to post as many updates as possible.

The rain has slacked off with about 10 minutes left before kickoff ...

Crest wins the toss and defers to the second half.

- Crest marches 80 yards, capped by a 27-yard TD run by Ryan Black and Trever Austin's kick to go up 7-0 at 7:13. Tosh Toms and Reggie Wilkins also with key first-down runs on the drive.
- KM answers on next drive as Michael Roberts finds Neil Scott on a 58-yard TD pass down the sideline. Alex Randall's kick ties it at 7-7 at 4:05
- KM recovers onsides kick, then goes 50 yards in the last 4 minutes of the quarter to go up 12-7 on a 7-yard TD pass from Roberts to C.J. Belcher.
- KM tries another onsides kick at end of quarter, but recovered by Crest.

2nd
- Crest takes just four plays to go 55 yards to take the lead. Black up the middle again for 35 yards for the score as Austin's kick makes it 14-12 at 10:18
- Crest takes advantage of a bad snap on a punt attempt by KM, which turned it over on downs at the CHS 9. Chargers punch it in three plays later on a short TD run by Black, his third of the game. Good catch on a high snap by Justin Price on the extra point as CHS goes up 21-12
- Crest freshman Trever Austin drills a season-long 40-yard FG just before the half to make it 24-12 at halftime. Black set up the FG with a huge 52-yard run.

First half breakdown: KM had some early momentum after recovering an onsides kick, then taking a 12-7 lead. Crest showed the ability to respond with 17 unanswered in the second quarter and seized the momentum going into halftime. The Chargers' running game has chewed up 206 yards on 19 carries keyed by Ryan Black's 10-140, 3 TD effort.
KM has had most of its success through the air as Michael Roberts and Neil Scott have hooked up four times for 120 yards with one TD. The Mounties have been limited to 22 yards rushing and less than one yard per carry.

2nd half
Word is more intense rain is coming this way ...
Crest goes up 31-12 on a Tosh Toms 4-yard TD run. Toms had a big run,before Wilkins found Levon Brooks on a 51-yard pass to set up the score with 8:12 left.
The Chargers go up 38-12 on Black's 4-yard TD blast with 14 seconds left. Crest drives 75 yards on 12 plays. Behind solid blocking, the Chargers have dominated the time of possession in the third. Austin is perfect on the night on XP with 1 FG.

KM's Roberts scores on a 7 yard run, taking advantage of a short field, to pull within 38-18 with 1:30 left.
Crest's Levon Brooks with a dazzling 99-yard kickoff return for a TD, weaving from one side of the field to the other. Austin's kick makes it 45-18 with 1:04 left.
