My take on this week's games

Shelby (2-0) at Crest (2-0)
On paper, the 40th edition of this storied rivalry looks to be a low-scoring battle between two teams with strong defenses.

With the likes of Donovan Gidney, Larry Raper and Marc Williams at Shelby and Ryan Black and Tosh Toms at Crest, both of these teams also feature solid running games. But mixing in a pass from time-to-time will be key to keeping the opposing defense honest.

Points could be at a premium tonight, so the team that takes advantage of good field position should come out of Sid Bryson Stadium 3-0.

Burns (1-1) at Ashbrook (0-3)
Burns is coming off a big win over East Gaston, so the Bulldogs should be confident going into their first road game of the season. The Green Wave are winless, but not without talent and are a better team than their 3-0 record indicates.

Burns will have to contain Green Wave receiver Jheranie Boyd, who had nearly 100 yards receiving last week at Shelby.

Kings Mountain (1-1) at Forestview (1-1)
The Jaguars won 48-21 at Kings Mountain last season, so the Mountaineers should be out for revenge. Other than last year, these two teams are usually evenly matched, and I think this one will be close in Gastonia tonight.

If the Mounties can keep Forestview running back Keon Williams contained, Greg Lloyd's squad should be 2-1 heading into next week's game at Crest.
