My take on tonight's games (9/14)

I'll be blogging live via the connection in The Star Car from Kings Mountain-Crest tonight, so drop by my blog during and after the game for updates.

Kings Mountain (0-3) at Crest (3-0)
The Mountaineers caught a tough break this week as they recently had to forfeit their opening win against Hunter Huss due to an ineligible player. Kings Mountain will have to quickly put that setback behind them as they face the unbeaten Chargers.

Crest continues to be a stout defensive team, but the Chargers should be able to put up more impressive numbers on offense tonight.

Lincolnton (1-3) at Shelby (2-1)
These two, 2A teams are battle-tested in the early going as they continue a long-standing series that dates back to 1922. Shelby senior quarterback Howard Thompson showed solid strides as a passer last week at Crest, and Thompson and the Golden Lions' offense should be able to continue those strides this week against Lincolnton.

The Wolves are yielding 29 points per game, compared to a Shelby defense giving up just 10 per outing.

Burns (1-2) at South Point (3-0)
The Red Raiders have scored 53 and 48, respectively, over the last two weeks, so the Bulldog defense will have a big challenge tonight in Belmont. Stopping quarterback Desmond Lowery (9.2 yards per carry) and South Point's running attack will be the key for Burns.

Getting out to a good start and an early lead will be crucial in this one for the Bulldogs, who showed a lot of fight in coming from behind last week at Ashbrook.
